St. Augustine Amateur Golf Tournament Set for Dec. 6-8 at St. Johns Golf Club

The 19th playing of the St. Augustine Amateur Golf Tournament will be held December 6-8, 2024, at the St. Johns Golf Club, located at 4900 Cypress Links Blvd., Elkton. This prestigious 54-hole competition, which was first held in 2004, promises to showcase some of the top college golfers, junior golf stars, and international talent. Spectators are encouraged to attend the event, which will feature morning tee times from both nines, starting approximately at 8:30 a.m. and running through 10:30 a.m. each day of the tournament. A Thursday practice round will precede the competition. The winner of the St. Augustine Amateur will receive the Conquistador Helmet Trophy, symbolizing St. Augustine’s rich history. The Office of Public Affairs produced a video to highlight the beloved event.

The St. Augustine Amateur returned in 2023 after a two-year hiatus due to course reconstruction. Brody Stevenson, a former Bartram Trail High School golfer, claimed the title last year with a final-round 65, finishing 11-under par and securing a two-stroke victory. Stevenson’s performance helped propel him to a spot on the Atlantic Sun Conference All-Freshman Team at Florida Gulf Coast University.

The St. Johns Golf Club, which underwent extensive renovations, received high praise from last year’s participants. Golf course architect Erik Larsen, along with Director of Golf and General Manager Wes Tucker, worked to develop a par-71, 7,009-yard layout that blends traditional architectural features with modern challenges. The course reopened in late November 2022, just over a year before the tournament resumed.

The tournament’s December dates, which replace its previous October schedule, have also allowed the event to attract a stronger field of competitors. The new timing, strategically placed between the fall and spring college golf seasons, helps draw a larger number of college players, including current NCAA Division I golfers and highly ranked juniors committed to Division I programs.

Net proceeds from the event, generated through sponsorships, will continue to benefit First Tee–North Florida, a youth development organization focused on building life skills through golf. With support from sponsors, the 2024 St. Augustine Amateur is expected to raise more than $25,000, bringing the total donations to First Tee–North Florida to nearly $500,000 since the event’s inception.

The tournament will feature a maximum field of 84 players, including NCAA Division I college golfers, nationally ranked juniors, elite mid-amateurs, and international competitors. The age range of participants in 2023 spanned from 13 to 44. Previous winners have hailed from across the globe, including the United States, Malaysia, Italy, South Korea, England, Norway, and Thailand. Notable past champions include future PGA Tour stars Peter Uihlein (2006), Zach Sucher (2008), Blayne Barber (2009), and Korn Ferry Tour players A.J. Crouch (2011) and Jack Maguire (2012).
