Post Hurricane Milton: St. Johns County is bringing in Emergency Debris Removal Contractor
In the aftermath of Hurricane Milton, St. Johns County’s emergency debris removal contractor will begin collecting storm debris from the right-of-way. Residents are encouraged to move storm debris curbside as soon as possible.
Please adhere to the following guidelines to assist the County in its recovery efforts.

GET HOOKED Anti-Litter Initiative Wins Top Honors at National Conference
St. Johns County is proud to announce that its innovative anti-litter initiative, Get Hooked, received multiple prestigious awards at the recent Savvy Awards Ceremony, held at the 3CMA (City-County Communications & Marketing Association) Annual Conference in Arlington, Texas, from Sept. 4-6, 2024. The initiative was spearheaded by the Office of Public Affairs and Public Works Department.

County Addressing Solid Waste Collection Disruptions
St. Johns County is addressing solid waste collection service disruptions following the transition to FCC Environmental Services Florida, LLC (FCC), which began servicing the County on Aug. 1, 2024.
For questions or concerns, residents can contact the St. Johns County Solid Waste Division at 904-827-6980 or SolidWaste@sjcfl.us. Residents can also report issues, such as missed residential solid waste collection, through the Recycle Coach app or by submitting a service request through the SJC Connect app.
New Curbside Collection Provider – August 1
On Thursday, August 1, St. Johns County’s new residential curbside collection provider, FCC Environmental Services Florida, LLC, began servicing the county.
All current service levels will remain in place, including weekly curbside collection of household garbage, yard waste, recycling, and bulk waste as well as scheduled services like appliance pick-up requested by customers.
Residents were sent a postcard in mid-July which provided information on their service days. 87% of residents’ service days will remain the same, but the time of service may change. Residents can also confirm their collection days on the Recycle Coach website and app. New Provider full news release

American Flag Rescue Program – 10,000th Flag
The American Flag Rescue Program has over 30 drop boxes throughout the County and allows residents to retire old and worn flags with honor and respect. In February 2024, the 10,000th flag was collected at the SJC Tax Collector’s office. Watch the video HERE.
Holiday Schedule
In observance of the Veterans Day holiday, the St. Johns County Solid Waste Division offices will be closed on Monday, Nov. 11. Standard business hours will resume on Tuesday, November 12.
Garbage, recycling, and yard waste collections will NOT be impacted, and the Tillman Ridge and Stratton Road solid waste scale houses will remain open during regular operating hours.
In observance of the Thanksgiving holiday, the St. Johns County Solid Waste Division offices will be closed on Thursday, November 28, and Friday, November 29. Standard business hours will resume on Monday, December 2.
Garbage, recycling, and yard waste will NOT be collected on Thursday, November 28, and the Tillman Ridge and Stratton Road solid waste scale houses will be closed.
Beginning November 28, collections will be delayed one day with all routes being completed by Saturday, November 30.
Scale houses will resume standard operating hours on Friday, November 29.

About The Solid Waste Division
The Solid Waste Division provides sustainable solid waste management services, including weekly curbside collections for over 100,000 residential units, ensuring high-quality and timely service to the community.
About the Solid Waste Division
- Manages and operates two solid waste transfer stations (Tillman Ridge and Stratton Rd) open to residents and businesses.
- Enforces Solid Waste Disposal Ordinances and manages contracts for garbage, recycling, yard debris, hazardous waste, and more.
- Operates Tillman Ridge Landfill in compliance with EPA and Florida DEP regulations.
- Oversees curbside pick-up of residential solid waste by franchised haulers to ensure quality service.
- Provides education on recycling, litter control, and prevention through various programs and state grants.
- Manages hazardous materials programs to improve mosquito control, beautify county lands, and protect citizens’ health and safety.
- Oversees proper disposal of residential and commercial waste, household hazardous waste, white goods, and tires and maintains landfill systems and monitoring.

The Construction and Demolition Franchise Haulers List services homeowners and businesses that are remodeling and need a roll-off container for construction and demolition projects.
The Commercial Franchise Haulers List services commercial properties and businesses that need a dumpster as their primary means of waste disposal or to set up recycling services.
The Solid Waste Non-Ad Valorem Assessments are paid for in advance of receiving the service. The assessment you see on your tax bill is for next years' service. The service period is from January 1st through December 31st.
Shredding events are held regularly and provide residents with an excellent opportunity to recycle and shred all of their confidential documents for free. For upcoming events, sign up for our newsletter or contact us.
Community Collection Day Events are held on select Saturdays at different locations throughout the county. Residents can safely dispose of household hazardous waste, electronics, chemicals, tires (10 per household), and rechargeable batteries free of charge. Construction debris can be disposed of at either of the two Residential and Commercial Construction & Demolition Disposal Facilities found here.
Residents of St. Johns County with proof of residence (driver's license with your current St. Johns County address) can bring items to either transfer station. (Fees may apply)
Other items such as pressure treated wood, tires, residential construction debris, and latex/oil-based paint are accepted across the scale for a charge.
Cardboard boxes must be flattened and placed inside of your recycling cart on your service day or taken to the Cardboard Recycling Drop-Off Center found on the Locations tab of our Garbage Collection page.
St. Johns County makes it easy to be a responsible recycler. Place only the five categories of recyclable items, loose (unbagged) in your recycling cart.
No, labels do not have to be removed before recycling, however, make sure everything is empty, clean, and dry and left loose in the bin (don't bag).
