SJC Parks and Recreation Hosting Inaugural Family Color Run 5K at St. Johns County Fairgrounds After Hurricane Delay
On Saturday, Nov. 16, the St. Johns County Parks and Recreation Department is hosting its first Family Color Run 5K at the St Johns County Fairgrounds (5840 SR 207 E., Elkton).
The Color Run was initially scheduled for September but was rescheduled to November out of an abundance of caution during the County’s preparation for Hurricane Helene. The event will be suitable for all ages and fitness levels, whether one is a seasoned runner or ready to enjoy a leisurely jog. The 5K will be mostly off-road and will feature colored powder for participants to fill the air with; bring running clothes you don’t mind getting a little colorful.
Registration via the Florida Race Day website costs $40 per runner. Participation gets you an official event t-shirt, a commemorative medal, professional timing services, and the color stations along the route.
“Despite the weather delay, our Parks and Recreation team is still as excited as ever to bring this family-friendly event to our community,” Community Program Manager Tess Simpson said. “We hope it’s the first of many opportunities to get together for fun and fitness. We can’t wait to see everyone come out, get active, and make memories!”
“Our Color Run 5K is where families come together to get fit and have fun, and we hope it’s the start of a great new St. Johns County tradition,” Parks and Recreation Assistant Director Jamie Baccari said. “Hurricane season couldn’t rain on our parade forever. Staying active as a family isn’t just about fitness—it’s about building stronger bonds and setting healthy habits for life. Let’s move, SJC!”
