The Road and Bridge Division provides general maintenance for all County Roadways and Drainage Facilities, which includes but is not limited to roadway construction, pothole repair, culvert replacements, ditch cleaning, road grading, road side mowing, herbicide spraying, tree trimming and removal.

All roadways in unincorporated areas of St. Johns County and those municipalities within the County that elect to participate in the uniform roadway addressing system shall be named according to the following requirements:

Sea turtle nesting season begins May 1, and St. Johns County officials are asking residents, visitors, and businesses to help protect natural habitat by observing all nesting season laws and regulations. The beaches of St. Johns County are home to several species of endangered or threatened sea turtles.

The Short Term Vacation Rental Ordinance is established to provide for registration, basic health, safety, parking, and solid waste requirements to help mitigate the effects of short term vacation rentals in an attempt to make them safer, more compatible with existing neighborhood regulations and provide accountability for their proper operation.

SJC Connect App is a complimentary app designed for residents and visitors of St. Johns County. This app empowers individuals to submit service requests using their mobile devices. The submitted requests are promptly directed to the dedicated St. Johns County staff for efficient processing and thorough review. Each service request is assigned a unique tracking number, ensuring transparency and accountability throughout the process. Since 1976, the Florida Small Business Development Center at the University of North Florida (SBDC) has helped more than 35,000 small businesses in an 18-county area. The SBDC provides assistance through management advice and technical training with little to no-cost to the potential, fledgling and/or well-established small business owners.

SJCUD works to maintain and improve the efficiency of SJCUD sanitary collection system and treatment plants and to prevent sewer overflow and backups. The sanitary sewer collection system and treatment plants have a maximum flow capacity of wastewater that can be handled. Rainwater and groundwater entering the sewer system takes up this capacity and can result in sewer overflows, sewer backups in homes, and unnecessary costs for treatment of this water. It can even lead to unnecessary expansion of the treatment plants to handle the extra capacity. These costs get passed on to the consumer.

Social Services Division provides interviewing, screening, and eligibility determination to applicants requesting assistance based on financial hardship. Upon approval, the applicant would be exempt from the County’s solid waste collection assessment and from the solid waste recycle assessment. This exemption is established by County resolution, which is based on the Federal Poverty Level.

Recent hurricanes and northeasters have severely eroded South Ponte Vedra Beach (SPV). The proposed project sand placement volume is 610,000 cubic yards (about 22 cy/ft. on average). This is a dredge project.

In an effort to keep our beaches well maintained, clean and safe, St. Johns County requires that all special events on our beaches have a Special Event Permit. The permit fees go directly back into preserving our beaches and keeping the public protected.

St. Johns County Department of Emergency Management, St. Johns County Public Health Department, and many other county agencies and volunteers have established Special Medical Needs Shelters for use during an evacuation situation.

North and South Beach Accesses at St. Johns County Ocean and Fishing Pier to Alternate Closures Through End of June for St. Augustine Beach Army Corps Shoreline Protection Project: The north and south beach accesses at the St. Johns County Ocean and Fishing Pier will alternate closures through the end of June to accommodate work on the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Shoreline Protection Project. The north access is currently closed, but it will reopen once work is complete and the contractor’s equipment moves to the south side of the pier. This transition will require the pier’s southern beach access to close in order for the project to continue south. The public can expect the same patterns of beach access closures as the project progresses south.

Stormwater permit fees, forms and resources

A stormwater permit is required from the St. Johns River Water Management District for almost any work that affects natural or man-made drainage systems or changes the use of a property or the structures on it. The following is a summary of the requirements from the St. Johns County Land Development Code. This is presented as informational only, and persons planning a project should refer to the Code for details or contact one of the county technical review engineers. There are levels of stormwater design requirements depending on the type, size and impact of a project. There are exempt projects, minor projects and those requiring full design and code compliance.
