Monthly economic indicator reports are prepared to provide information about current economic conditions and economic trends in the county. The reports include information on the following topics:

St. Johns County was required by the Phase II rules to submit to FDEP a Notice of Intent (NOI) to utilize the Generic Permit for Stormwater Discharge from Phase II Municipal Separate Storm Sewer Systems. In their NOI’s, the applicants were required to describe the BMPs they had selected to achieve the six Minimum Control Measures. On June 23, 2003, the FDEP approved the St. Johns County NOI, and our permit became effective. A new permit was approved by the FDEP and came into effect on January 16, 2008.

Participation of citizens in their government is a hallmark of the American experience. The opportunity for citizens to participate is much greater at the Local level than at the State or Federal level. However, there has been an increasing tendency for citizens to avoid participation for a variety reasons.

Beginning, Thursday, August 1, 2024, St. Johns County’s new residential curbside collection provider, FCC Environmental Services Florida, LLC, will begin servicing the entire county for residential solid waste.

After multiple flooding events in the North Beach area of St. Johns County, the Public Works Department commissioned a study to find solutions to combat this problem.

The St. Johns County Utility Department has agreed to purchase North Beach Utilities Inc. and acquire its 1,400 customers for water and wastewater services. The acquisition process began in 2022 and includes an immediate $4 million investment into infrastructure. This will provide short and long-term benefits by strengthening the condition of existing utility infrastructure and increasing its level of service to its customers.

St. Johns County has a One-Stop Development Review Process for quick, efficient, approval of construction plans (paving, drainage, and utilities) that have only gotten minor comments on first submittal.

St. Johns County Administration and the Board of County Commissioners are aware of concerns and questions within the community regarding site clearing debris burns on large development sites. The County does not have legal ability or regulatory authority to manage or control burnings related to residential development, large land clearing, agriculture, or silviculture. State of Florida statute authorizes the Florida Forest Service to regulate these types of site clearing debris burns. In addition, St. Johns County does not have the ability to regulate prescribed burns in forested areas or on public lands that are conducted by state or federal agencies.

The Operations Section provides a multi-dimensional approach in managing the wide array of emergencies that a citizen, or our county as a whole, may face through three specialized divisions—the Fire Rescue Division, Fire Rescue Communications, and the Marine Rescue Division.

Performance dashboards are tools that help simplify and visualize key metrics and data points for the county departments. They combine information in an easy to view format through charts, graphs, and other visual elements to provide insight into departmental performance to the public. Each department dashboard consolidates information which allows leadership to monitor progress, find areas of improvement, and help build transparency. These data driven dashboards will foster greater public trust that ensures the county services are aligned with the strategic plan as well as the needs and expectations of the community.    

Building Department staff evaluates all applications for building permits in St. Johns County. In most cases, building permit applications will be accepted only after a Clearance Sheet is issued. You will need your “Parcel ID” number, which can be found at the Property Appraiser website, to begin the permit process.

Our Pet Center has an excellent staff that feeds, waters, cleans, and medicates the animals in our care. We have two veterinary technicians that process every animal that comes through our door. The animals are looked over thoroughly, scanned for microchips, and given needed medications. The Pet Center has a wide variety of dogs and cats that are looking for a loving home.

The Ponte Vedra Beach Restoration Project is complete!

This project consists of the installation of approximately 172 linear feet steel sheet pile with reinforced concrete cap and additional revetment. The seawall will cross the eastern end of Porpoise Point Drive and tie into an existing seawall to the south and existing rock revetment to the north.

Water supply, water conservation and water quality are issues of critical concern for Florida. The available water supply for drinking water in Florida is limited and additional water supply sources are being explored in order to meet future water supply demand.

Some plant or animal species are experiencing declining numbers in population usually due to a decrease in available habitat. When the population of a species becomes critically low the Federal or State government may designate the plant or animal as a Protected Species. In Florida, there are several levels of Protected Species including Listed Species identified as Endangered, Threatened or Species of Special Concern or other Protected Species such as migratory birds or over harvested plants. There are a number of Protected Species that may occur on lands within St. Johns County. It is the County’s goal to assist the public and other governing bodies to take the appropriate steps for the safeguarding of Protected Species.

The Public Education Office offers a life-long educational process regarding fire-related injury prevention issues. Our Community-based educational program provides residents with valuable information that could save their lives during a fire incident.

Government records may be seen and copied from a records custodian at the County Administration building, via specific County Departments responsible for their own records, from records custodians at Elected Officials Offices and at other levels of government such as state agencies, local, county and state authorities.
