History

Al Wilke Park and Community Center is named after former Hastings resident Al Wilke, who moved to Hastings in 1945 after being stationed in St. Augustine while he was in the Coast Guard. Wilke was an active community member who held many roles, including town treasurer and fire chief. He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and playing tennis at the park that is now named after him. Wilke passed in 1980.
