During the Dec. 17, 2024 St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners Regular Meeting, a motion was passed to elect Commissioner Krista Joseph as a member and chair of the St. Johns County Value Adjustment Board; and to elect Commissioner Christian Whitehurst as a member of the St. Johns County Value Adjustment Board (VAB).
Florida Statute 194.015 and Chapter 12D-9.004 Florida Administrative Code requires that the Board of County Commissioners elect two members from their membership to serve on the VAB.
The VAB helps resolve disagreements between taxpayers and the Property Appraiser. In August, taxpayers receive a Truth in Millage (TRIM) notice showing their property’s assessed and market values. If a taxpayer disagrees with these values or their property’s classification or exemption status, they can file a petition with the VAB.
The Clerk of the Circuit Court and County Comptroller office manages the VAB process. Clerks assigned to the Minutes and Records Division handle petitions, schedule and coordinate hearings, and maintain records.
