A Message from Krista Joseph
As 2025 has begun and we have all settled back into our routines from the holidays, I wanted to update citizens on the exciting news and notes from your St. Johns County Government.
In November, I was proud to reschedule public comments to the beginning of the Board of County Commission (BCC) meetings for the first time since it was moved to a later time during the COVID-19 Pandemic. This decision reinstated the longstanding tradition of putting residents’ comments FIRST before discussing agenda items. I advise residents to arrive by 9 a.m. to give their 3 minute comments.
Towards the end of 2024, we also celebrated many significant milestones:
- The groundbreaking of the new Hastings Community Center and Library
- $2.1M in American Rescue Plan Act funds for the St. Johns County Police Athletic League Diamond of Dreams all-inclusive specially designed baseball/multipurpose field and playground for children of all abilities
- The completion of the $15.1M Developer-Funded Longleaf Pine Parkway Widening of over 4 miles
To kick off 2025, we have already accomplished:
- The reopening of the Ocean and Fishing Pier (350 A1A Beach Blvd., St. Augustine Beach, for fishing and site seeing.
- The unveiling of Hastings’ newest historical marker honoring the Wetumpka Fruit Company and its impact on helping Hastings become the Potato Capitol of Florida.
- Hosting the annual Legislative Delegation and share with our state representative our new 4-year funding and advocacy roadmap, which includes the sustainability of our farm land, State Road 16 Corridor Project, the Florida Museum of Black History, Intercoastal Flood Mitigation, and a new District Regional Medical Examiner’s Office.
Please stay connected with us and be informed of county news. You can watch our BCC meetings, sign up for newsletters, download the SJC Connect app to your phone, and learn more at www.sjcfl.us/stay-informed.
Be safe in 2025, and I hope to see you at a future BCC meeting.
Krista Joseph
Board of County Commissioners, District 4, Chair
