Annual Report on Volunteer Boards

At the June 4, 2024, St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners Regular Meeting, Joanne Spencer, Senior Assistant to the Board of County Commissioners, presented an annual report on volunteer boards. St. Johns County has 20 Boards and Committees, with a total of 148 members, all of whom serve countless hours to enhance the quality of life in our community.

“Volunteer boards are essential to the well-being of St. Johns County,” Spencer said. “Our board members’ dedication and hard work have led to substantial community improvements.”

A few accomplishments from 2023 that directly enhance the community include:

  • Supporting the development of 280 affordable housing units
  • Approving 103 contractor licenses and renewing 1,175 contractor licenses
  • Reviewing 143 Planning and Zoning applications
  • Analyzing 8 properties for the Land Acquisition & Management Program (LAMP)
  • Identifying multiple new Significant Cultural Resources
  • Reviewing the first Landmark Application since 2019
  • Reviewing and approving Sports Tourism Grants totaling nearly $300,000
  • Providing more than $660,000 in funding for arts, culture, and heritage tourism event and program support

“These achievements demonstrate the power of community involvement,” Spencer said. “We are incredibly grateful to our volunteers and encourage more residents to join us in making a positive difference in St. Johns County.”
