St. Johns County Officials Push for State Funding During Tallahassee Visit

St. Johns County officials, including Commissioners Ann Taylor (District 5) and Clay Murphy (District 3), traveled to Tallahassee to participate in the Florida Association of Counties’ (FAC) 2025 Legislative Day. The event provided a platform for county representatives to advocate for state funding to support key infrastructure, transportation and public safety projects. According to FAC, Legislative Day is an annual event where commissioners and staff from across Florida convene in Tallahassee to assist in lobbying efforts to “protect home rule and prevent unfunded mandates.”

During meetings with state legislators, local officials emphasized the need for funding to support major roadway expansions such as State Road 16 and the International Golf Parkway Interchange, and the development of a new regional medical examiner’s office. They also highlighted the need for storm surge protections such as the North Beach Seawall and pushed for funding for the Florida Museum of Black History. The county will proactively pursue these initiatives through the current and subsequent legislative sessions.
