St. Johns County joined the Villages Baseball Association and a huge crowd on March 1 to celebrate the grand opening of Mill Creek Park (4881SR-16, St. Augustine) with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and first pitches from county commissioners. The Office of Public Affairs made a video to commemorate the special day.
Krista Joseph, chair of the St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners, emphasized the park’s place as a long-term commitment to serving the needs of the community, especially its young athletes.

“With a $12 million investment, Mill Creek Park is a testament to the fact that recreation is paramount to St. Johns County,” Chair Joseph said.
Joseph also mentioned the County’s $123 million Regional Park Plan, a major ongoing commitment to recreation.
“This project is about more than new fields,” District 2 Commissioner Sarah Arnold said. “It’s about investing in our families, in our athletes, and the future of our community.”
Parks and Recreation Director Ryan Kane spoke about the benefits the County’s second athletic park in 10 years would bring to future generations
“Out here, on these fields, coaches are going to connect with young boys and girls and make them amazing men and women,” Kane said. “They’re going to understand that if you strike out, you’re getting back up at bat, and you’re going again.”
After the speakers were finished and the ribbon was cut, all five members of the Board of County Commissioners gathered on one of the fields for a ceremonial first pitch.
