St. Johns County to Keep World Golf Village IMAX Theater Open
St. Johns County is soliciting operators to keep the IMAX Theater at World Golf Village open. This process was announced to refute inaccurate information posted on the theater’s social media about being closed to the public.
“We have always been and remain committed to keeping the IMAX theatre open for as long as we are able to. It is a great attraction for our residents and a critical source of entertainment for citizens and visitors of St. Johns County. We recently informed the current operators of the theater that we are soliciting a new operator, as the current operator intends to cease operations. The County owns the theater, and we are dedicated to keeping the theater open,” County Administrator Joy Andrews said.
Since the World Golf Foundation, Inc. announced its relocation plans in 2023, St. Johns County has demonstrated its commitment to the IMAX Theatre and World Golf Village (WGV) area.
- This includes opportunities for the public to provide community input on the WGV properties.
- On April 16, the St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) approved the $5.5 million purchase of all World Golf Foundation, Inc. (WGV) assets , including the Tour Production Building, WGV Parking, and WGV common space, adding to County ownership of the Hall of Fame, IMAX Theater, and the grounds of the World Golf Village Renaissance St. Augustine Resort Convention Center and Hotel.
- On May 21, the St. Johns Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) approved World Golf Village’s strategic recommendations and directed County staff to prepare for Board approval, a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) to solicit proposals from developers to redevelop the WGV based on community input provided by the public through online surveys and public engagement meetings.
