St. Johns County Public Library System Announces 2024 Summer Reading Program

Your Adventure Begins at SJCPLS with Engaging Events and Rewards for All Ages

The St. Johns County Public Library System (SJCPLS) is excited to announce its “Adventure Begins at Your Library” 2024 Summer Reading Program that will run from June 2 through July 27. Designed to promote educational and family-friendly summer fun, SJCPLS invites the community to visit the library and participate in this year’s reading event. Participants may pick up their free reading logs from any library branch to earn prizes for every five days tracked.

Additionally, over 100 fun and educational events are planned throughout this eight-week “adventure,” along with regularly scheduled story time, book club, and STEM programs. Patrons are encouraged to stop by any of the six SJCPLS branches and enjoy various programs that offer:

  • Camping-themed family fun, including games, scavenger hunts, story time, and more.
  • Fun for the whole family at various movie matinees.
  • Educational and up-close experiences with nature presented by partner organizations, including Marineland, Wild Wonders, Guana Tolomato Matanzas National Estuarine Research Reserve, and the Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens.
  • Nature Detective workshops hosted by the Garden Club of St. Augustine explore the world of monarch butterflies.
  • Magic shows with Magician Mark Alan.
  • Arts, crafts, trivia, and so much more!

As community partners in education, SJCPLS encourages families to read together during the summer break.

“Librarians understand that children who don’t read and learn during their summer break fall behind. It’s called the ‘summer slide,’” SJCPLS Director Debra Rhodes Gibson said. “Our Summer Reading Program offers incentives to keep reading skills sharp ahead of the new school year.”

The “Adventure Begins at Your Library” Summer Reading Program is proudly sponsored by multiple Friends of the Library groups. To learn more about the program or discover all of the services and resources SJCPLS offers, contact your local branch library or visit www.sjcpls.org.
