Youth Leadership St. Johns Learn About County Operations

Earlier this week, local youth participating in the Youth Leadership St. Johns program embarked on a visit to the St. Johns County Commission building. This visit was geared towards providing them with a deeper understanding of the inner workings of their local government.

County Commissioner Henry Dean welcomed the students and hosted an informative presentation on the functioning of the county government. Commissioner Dean shed light on how county operations impact the lives of students and encouraged them to actively engage and contribute to their community.

Adding to the excitement of the day, Deputy Scott Wright and his loyal canine Judge joined the event to demonstrate the abilities of a police dog. The officer also discussed the various services provided by the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office. The St. Johns County 2023-2024 Youth Leadership St. Johns Class, under the guidance of Care Connect for Flagler Health +, comprises twenty-two enthusiastic high school juniors representing all St. Johns County high schools. In February, each aspiring leader applied for this exceptional 21-year-old leadership program, originally initiated and sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce in 2002.

This annual program is thoughtfully crafted to impart essential leadership skills and vital knowledge about the county, mirroring the adult program known as Leadership St. Johns.
