Hastings Economic Development Public Survey Closes Nov. 19, 2023
St. Johns County’s Hastings Economic Development Public Survey Closes Nov. 19
On Sept. 25, St. Johns County announced a new website with an online survey as part of its efforts to engage the public on its preferences for potential economic development opportunities in the Hastings community and nearby areas. The online survey is available at www.sjchastings.com until Nov. 19, 2023.
Public input is requested to help the St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) better understand how people who live in Hastings and nearby areas feel about economic development. The BOCC wants to know how residents prioritize economic development relative to other community issues, along with residents’ preferred direction regarding economic development. A 19-question survey is available for the public to provide specific details on the types of economic development it prefers. There is also the opportunity to provide open-ended input through a written comment portal. The website has area maps and data for the Hastings Census Designated Place, the statistical area that best represents the former town of Hastings.
In addition to the survey, St. Johns County also held two public engagement meetings on Oct. 25 and Oct. 26 at the Hastings Branch Library to provide the Hastings community and surrounding areas the opportunity to share their sentiments with County staff.
All of the information gathered in this process will be compiled and analyzed, with findings presented at a regularly scheduled meeting of the BOCC.
This process focuses on the formerly incorporated town of Hastings, founded in 1890 as an agricultural production center. Hastings and the surrounding area are a special part of St. Johns County, providing vital food production, open space, and historical significance. This community is a pillar of St. Johns County, with invaluable culture and heritage.
