St. Johns County Hosts Successful Meetings to Listen to Community Ideas on World Golf Village Properties
St. Johns County hosted two successful public meetings in the County Auditorium on Wednesday, Sept. 27, and Thursday, Sept. 28, to listen to members of the public present ideas for the redevelopment of St. Johns County’s World Golf Village properties. The meetings began with introductions from District 2 Commissioner Sarah Arnold and District 3 Commissioner Roy Alaimo. St. Johns County Tourism and Cultural Development Director Tera Meeks and Deputy County Attorney Lex Taylor III facilitated both meetings, providing the opportunity for the public to share their thoughts in an open forum. County staff will now analyze public feedback to establish themes and present options with associated costs to the Board of County Commissioners for a comprehensive approach for the properties. Visit www.sjcfl.us/wgv for more information.
“I and all of us here at the County appreciate you coming tonight to share your input, which is so important and so valued,” Commissioner Arnold said. “The feedback you provided and will continue to provide on the potential uses of the World Golf Village properties is critical. It will aid myself, my colleagues on the Board, and all of our staff in making decisions on these incredible County assets.”
As of today, more than 7,200 people have visited the County’s website dedicated to World Golf Village public involvement, and more than 4,700 people have completed the survey on the website to provide ideas and concepts. The survey officially closes on Saturday, Sept. 30.
The properties that are open for public input include:
- World Golf Hall of Fame: a 64,113 square-foot multi-purpose facility. World Golf Foundation (WGF) notified its intent to discontinue Hall of Fame operations on or about Sept. 1, 2023. WGF has informed the County they intend to fully vacate by Dec. 31, 2023.
- World Golf Hall of Fame IMAX Theater: a 17,865 square-foot movie theater. WGF notified its intent to discontinue IMAX operations on or about Sept. 1, 2023. The equipment (movie screen and audio/visual components) would remain in the building. Currently, the County is proposing a temporary extension of the WGF operation of the IMAX Theater until Dec. 31, 2023.
- PGA Tour Productions: a 32,329 square-foot Class-A office building. WGF is relocating at the end of 2024.
- South Legacy Trail: 36.07 acres of various parking lots, rights-of-way areas, landscaping, and lakes.
“We’re encouraged at how our community is engaged and interested in the World Golf Village properties and what the County should do with these properties,” Commissioner Alaimo said. “Public engagement is and will continue to be at the forefront for the Board of County Commissioners.”
