South Ponte Vedra Beach Reach and Crescent Beach Reach Pre-Construction Meetings

St. Johns County to Host Two Pre-Construction Meetings for South Ponte Vedra Beach Reach and Crescent Beach Reach Portions of FEMA Dune Enhancement Project

St. Johns County will host two public meetings to discuss the upcoming South Ponte Vedra Beach Reach and Crescent Beach Reach portions of the FEMA Dune Enhancement Project. The South Ponte Vedra Beach Reach meeting will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 4, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the South Ponte Vedra Civic Association, 2724 S. Ponte Vedra Blvd., Ponte Vedra Beach. The Crescent Beach Reach meeting will take place on Thursday, Oct. 5, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Anastasia Island Branch Public Library, 124 Sea Grove Main St., St. Augustine Beach. The public meetings will discuss the local impacts on the project areas and what citizens should expect, including the effects on beach driving and beach access.

The South Ponte Vedra Beach Reach and Crescent Beach Reach portions are included in the FEMA Dune Enhancement Project due to the impacts of Hurricanes Ian and Nicole. Emergency Management Director Joseph Giammanco presented an update to the Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) on the status of the FEMA Dune Enhancement Project at the Sept. 19 BOCC regular meeting. St. Johns County is performing the restoration in phases to reduce public access restrictions and increase public safety, as well as the efficiency of its resources to complete this massive project.

St. Johns County selected construction firm Phillips and Jordan to complete the projects. Phillips and Jordan plan to begin construction in October, with the projects expected to take three months to complete, weather permitting. The South Ponte Vedra Beach Reach includes two smaller sections of 6,200 feet and 2,700 feet centered around the Exxon gas station public beach access and South Ponte Vedra Park. Construction access will run through both of these areas. The Crescent Beach Reach includes the shoreline from 7560 A1A S. through the Fort Matanzas Ramp and a small 2,500-foot section south of Cubbedge Road. Construction access will run through Cubbedge Road, Fort Matanzas Ramp, and potentially 7740 A1A S.
