Butler Beach Reach FEMA Dune Enhancement Project Update July 2023

Butler Beach Reach FEMA Dune Enhancement Project Update

As part of the ongoing Butler Beach Reach portion of the FEMA Dune Enhancement Project, St. Johns County will close one vehicle beach access ramp and reopen two more ramps in the area later this week. The Butler Beach Reach includes the shoreline from Ocean Hammock Park through Bryn Mawr Ocean Resort, in addition to a 1,500-foot section from Mary Street in the southbound direction. St. Johns County continues to maintain public safety by closing vehicle beach access ramps where there is a presence of heavy equipment on the beach.

  • On Tuesday, July 25, the Dondanville Road vehicle beach access ramp will close. The A Street and Ocean Trace Road vehicle beach access ramps, which closed earlier in July, will still be closed at this time.
  • The Matanzas Avenue (enter-only) vehicle beach access ramp will remain open. Vehicles entering the beach at Matanzas Avenue must exit at a southern ramp.
  • On Thursday, July 27, the A Street (enter-only) and Ocean Trace Road (exit-only) vehicle beach access ramps will reopen.

“The contractor is making great progress,” St. Johns County Emergency Management Director Joseph Giammanco said. “They are on schedule and doing everything safely.”
