St. Johns County’s 2023 Hurricane Preparedness Guide is Available Now
The 2023 Atlantic hurricane season is underway, running from June 1 to Nov. 30. St. Johns County Emergency Management’s 2023 Hurricane Preparedness Guide and other preparedness materials are available to the public at www.sjcemergencymanagement.com. Printed copies of the guide will be available for free at St. Johns County Public Library System branches beginning next week.
St. Johns County encourages its residents to sign up for emergency notifications at www.alertstjohns.com. Alert St. Johns enables St. Johns County to provide residents with critical information in a variety of emergency situations, such as severe weather, unexpected road closures, water advisories, missing persons, evacuations of buildings or neighborhoods, and incidents that may pose a threat to public safety. By signing up, residents can choose to receive time-sensitive messages via phone call, text message, or email.
“Do not wait until a storm approaches our area,” said Dr. Joseph Giammanco, St. Johns County Emergency Management Director. “Today is the day to get prepared.”
St. Johns County also encourages its residents to take advantage of Florida’s Disaster Preparedness Sales Tax Holidays. The first runs from May 27 through June 9. The second runs from Aug. 26 through Sept. 8. Many vital supplies (such as batteries, generators, soaps, trash bags, and more) are tax-free during these time periods. For a full list of tax-free items, visit www.floridarevenue.com/disasterprep. For a complete disaster supply kit checklist, visit www.floridadisaster.org/kit.
