2022 Program Information

We are excited to announce that we will be holding the Junior Lifeguard Program this summer! In accordance with CDC guidelines we will be making a few adjsutments to camp that hopefully will have minimal impact on the participants. All camp sessions will be limited to 24 participants.

The St. Johns County Junior Lifeguard program is open to boys and girls 9 – 17 years old. The program is staffed by certified ocean rescue lifeguards and focuses on providing water safety education in an environment that is fun while building teamwork, physical conditioning and respect for each other and the environment.

  • Issued St. Johns County Junior Lifeguard Uniform (Bathing Suit, Hat, Sun Shirt)

  • First Aid lessons including CPR certification

  • Lifeguard rescue skills – swimming, paddle board, and jet ski rescues

  • Bodyboarding and surfing

  • Lifeguard competitions

  • Weekly cookout and awards celebration

  • Special events (King of the Beach, Monster Mile, Adventure nights)

2022 Registration and Tryouts

Registration will open Monday April 4 at 9 a.m. Registration forms must be emailed to sjcjrlifeguard@sjcfl.us or jearl@sjcfl.us. Registration will be completed on a first come first serve basis based on the date and time the registration form was received. No registrations will be accepted prior to the official opening date. Upon receipt of the registration form you will receive a confirmation that is was received and your child will either be put in a spot if available or put on the waitlist. Please make sure when completing the attached registration form you select a "1st choice" and "2nd choice" for a session.

All participants who are signing up for their first year of Junior Lifeguard camp are required to attend a skills assessment tryout prior to registration.

Tryouts consist of:

  • Swimming 100 meters unassisted
  • Swimming 10 meters underwater
  • Treading water for 5 minutes

All tryouts take place at the Solomon Calhoun Pool (1500 Duval Street, St. Augustine Florida 32084). No advanced registration is required to attend a tryout.

2022 Session Dates
Drop off 9 a.m., pick up 1pm Marine Rescue Office, 366 A1A Beach Blvd, St. Augustine Florida 32080.

  • Session I: Monday, June 6 – Friday June 10, 2022 (For 9- 11 years old only)
  • Session II: Monday, June 13 – Friday June 17, 2022
  • Session III: Monday, June 20 – Friday June 24, 2022
  • Session IV: Monday, June 27 – Friday July 1, 2022
